Michael von Graffenried's series "Inside Cario" consists in panoramic photographs he took as an artist in residence in 2007. During the stay, it proved impossible either to treat the pictures in a lab or to show them, the gallery which had first agreed finally declining for fear of the authorities' reaction. The artist eventually decided to exhibit his work for a day on a rooftop Downtown. Cairo's poorest live on the rooftops. The two panoramic pieces are each accompanied by a miniature screen showing anonymous recordings posted on youtube during Graffenried's stay in Egypt. The one accompanying "School's out for girls in Ard El Lewa, Cairo" shows young boys singing seductive songs, while the one shown with "Riot Police closing access to Al Azahr Mosque on a Friday" shows a police officer slapping the face of a detainee.
